Following the incredible success of The Gynaecological Cancer Fund's first Lady Garden 5K in 2016 we are thrilled to announce that there will be a second Lady Garden Run 2017!
We will be hosting both 5K and 10K run options in London's flagship park, Hyde Park. This year we are welcoming men and women to run because these cancers affect men’s mothers, wives, daughters, sisters and friends too.
The route of both the 5K and 10K will take in landmarks of Hyde Park, including the Serpentine, and will be a fun-filled event supported by D&D London, and TOTM.
Whilst it is not a requirement, we would be grateful if you would aim to raise around £200 for vital research into gynae cancers. Start fundraising for us here.
You can keep up to date with all our exciting activities and post your own fundraising events by joining the Lady Garden Campaigners. Just follow the link here.
We can't wait to run with you!
The Gynaecological Cancer Fund Committee
Arrive early to register and pick up your limited edition Lady Garden running top and timer chip. There will be a tent for you to leave your belongings in next to the bandstand (please note we are not responsible for your items).
Warm up at the bandstand
Choregraphed dancers will lead a warm up to get everyone ready for the 5K and 10K.
The start and finish lines are to one side of the bandstand. The 5k course will be one lap of the route which passes the Serpentine, and the outskirts of the park before looping back into the heart of Hyde Park back towards the bandstand.
The 10K run (10:15am)
The 10K course will be two laps of the route, passing the Serpentine and finishing at the bandstand, which you will also pass halfway through the 10K route.
There will be plenty of cheerleaders and race marshalls throughout the 5K and 10K route to show you the way! When you register make sure you use your mobile number so when you finish you receive a text message with your time on it!
When you have finished either the 5K or 10K, stop by the tent next to the bandstand to pick up your participation medal.
Picnic (12pm)
The course will close at 11:45am but everyone is welcome to enjoy Hyde Park in the afternoon. If you have pre-ordered picnic refreshments from our generous supporters D&D London, then these will be available to collect, with a confirmation of your order. You are welcome to bring your own picnic too.
TUBE: Hyde Park Corner is the nearest tube station to the start and finish line.
PARKING: Pay and Display parking is available on West Carriage Drive and in Car Parks at either end of Serpentine Bridge. However, we recommend that visitors avoid coming by car as there are limited places. Click here for more information.
DROP-OFF/TAXI: There are a number of drop-off points near the Queen Elizabeth Gates convenient for the start and finish line.
Whilst there will be limited refreshments available at Hyde Park, we are delighted that D&D London will be providing an exclusive Lady Garden picnic for runners and their friends and family to enjoy after the run.
The picnic will include:
Selection of delicious finger sandwiches
Natural energy bar
Fresh fruit pot
Fresh juice
The picnic is available to buy via the ticket page when you sign up to register, and can be purchased on its own, or as a package with registration for either the 5K or 10K run.
The Gynaecological Cancer Fund is a charity with a mission to raise funds in support of The Royal Marsden and Dr Susana Banerjee, a leading oncologist, in her groundbreaking work into precision therapies. This involves a personalised approach to gynaecological cancer treatment, which looks at an individual’s DNA in order to tailor drugs to the patient, rather than a one-size-fits-all approach.
Each member of our Committee has lost a mother, sister or friend to gynaecological or breast cancer. We are all deeply committed to raising £250,000 a year for three years to help fund Dr Banerjee’s clinical research trials (£750,000 in total). We are also committed to raising additional funds for the awareness campaign to help people understand more about gynaecological cancers and their symptoms.
